I'll work around this in python2.6 for now, but this should be fixed in
the packages.

libical gedit eog epiphany-browser totem rhythmbox have the issue at
least there, do you have any pointer on why they should not use it to
explain to upstream when opening a bug?

LOCALMODLIBS is a macro used to link the python binary against
libraries needed for the binary
You don't need an extension to link with all the libraries used for the
interpreter.
