Gnome-panel fails to load various applets

Unfortunately, it happens also without dropbox - perhaps dropbox makes
it consistent.
Can you suggest a way to debug why the applets don't load?

This is related to the half-proprietary app dropbox. I removed it, and
now the windows don't show.
