I have to mark this as invalid as you are unable to reproduce it, given
your successful install of 9.04. However, I am confident -- especially
since you have an AMD processor -- that this was due to a bug in webkit
that has since been fixed in the daily-live CDs.

Quick update - I resorted back to Jaunty, and that installed without
problems. So it's definitely a new bug that has been introduced in 9.10.
Since I now have running Jaunty on this machine, I won't be able to do
any more testing on 9.10 installation...

OK, so I tested a bit more. Let me first correct what I wrote earlier.
The installer goes through all of its 7 steps. After the 7th step, when
I click Forward to start installation, a new window quickly pops up
before it disappears. And then there is no more sign of the installer.
