Ok had a quick play with Gutenprint Gimp plugin.
It now does seem to remember the settings and use them. Only one problem
remained, regardless of paper size selected it seems to use the default
of A4. So within Gutenprint gimp plugin if I select 6x4 borderless it
actually appears to try and use

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the
live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick
Meerkat. It
Turboprint now provide their own interface which negates my original bug
report so happy for this to be closed.

This happens for me as well. This is particularly annoying as gimp
printing both FC5 and Mandriva distros just work and the standard gimp
Canon drivers only print (not as well as turboprint) up to 600 dpi when
the printer will do 4800 dpi! They also get the image alignment wrong
(at least for
10 matches
