We have vlc 1.0.5-1ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid). All bugs that are
fixed by upstream in VLC 1.0.5 and earlier are fixed in Ubuntu, too.

I got the same automatically generated error; in my case, I wanted to
sort my playlist, so I clicked the bar above the song title column and
VLC crashed.
