9.10 reached end of life some time ago and the logs you attached are
incomplete so I am closing this report. If this happens again on
12.04+, apport should automatically file a report with the needed logs
attached.

Exactly the same happens for me on an eeepc 1000H:
(1) Very slow installer (after klicking it needs up to five minutes to switch
from timezone to keyboard-settgings)
(2) Installer finally crashes with an Input/Output Error (I checked MD5SUM
for download and used usb-creator without errors)
