This bug report has been inactive for quite some time and in the
meantime Ubuntu has moved along. I hope the reported problem has been
resolved in the current version of Ubuntu. If it has not and there are
people willing to follow up with information collecting and testing, it

I experience the same bug since upgrading to Karmic.
I'm running a Thinkpad laptop with an Intel GMA X4500 MHD graphics card.
(Let me know if you need more information on my system)
The problem only occurs if I'm using the touch pad. The built-in
trackpad shows no problems.

Huh, I just found a very simple solution to my problem.
Following this post
http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8337500postcount=6 I used
gconf-editor to set the key
--desktop--gnome--peripherals--touchpad--disable_while_typing to false.
That easy :DDD

Just to note that if I plug in an external keyboard mouse and use that
the problem goes away. The issue is with the touchpad only.
