I'm not familiar with that nVidia RAID controller, but it's probably a fakeraid
solution. Unless you have multiboot, you don't need that.
Disable the RAID in the BIOS and install, using the alternate CD. There you can
configure software RAID.

hi thanks for the reply. Yes it is a bios fake rade setup. I have tried
from the alternate cd with it disabled in bios but unfortunately it
errored and said it couldn't install grub... so i switched the fake raid
back on which seems to let the installer run through ok.
but my machine still won't
