This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

Made large tests this weekend, with all 2.6.31.X stable Kernels, and
also with the new 2.6.32 stable Kernel, and all fo them present serious
problems with this dongle.
Just a downgrade to 2.6.29.X stable Kernels solve completely this
problem, but them other major problem appear in Karmic, like no

Have just updated the dongle firmware, but saw no improvement in this
issue. Trying now kernel regressions until I find one that solves the
problem. I will report here if I am sucessful.

Hi!
This modem, seems to be similar (but not equal) to E220 model.
There're several bugs related to Huawei and Karmic kernels that seem to
be solving problems.
But E156G (0x12d1:0x1003) is still buggy in 2.6.31-15.50.

I can confirm that E156G modem works flawlessly with 2.6.31-11 kernel,
from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31.1/, following

But...this kernel is quite buggy in other aspects, as sound (not good

In 2.6.31-11 kernel, the built-in drive (with Windows drivers) doesn't
load. With 2.6.31-14 and 15, those drivers load automatically, and
obviously, I have to umount to obtain this 1 of 20 times sucessful
connections.

Just to add an information: this modem used to work flawlessly in
Jaunty, being recognized in 10 of each 10 times, and I was able to stop
and start connection in the NM context menu also in 10 of each 10 times.
