Update: I have meanwhile fixed the problem. I removed the directory ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus. Bingo - open-terminal now works again (actually, I renamed it to get it out of the way, but no matter, the situation is fixed now). I have not taken the time to dwelve into that directory to see what was
