In Ubuntu notification bubbles are non-interactive, and would therefore
be unsuitable for the kind of setup you're suggesting. A first step
would be to write up a basic description of how the setup would work,
including a rough diagram of what windows should appear.

i disagree. though i am not a coder i think that this is a small bug
which can be easily fixed by sending out a notification when the new
hardware is detected for first time.
and it is a usability issue as many people dont know that their
fingerprint reader/ webcam is detected and working in linux
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install ,
that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't
be addressed as part of the project.
