Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdevelop

Canonical seems to have chosen to supply kdevelop4 without any option to
install kdevelop3.

This seems to be a grave mistake, for at least the following reasons:

1. kdevelop3 is a released stable product; kdevelop4 is in beta
2. There is no help whatsoever available for kdevelop4 (and it's a complete
re-write, so previous experience with kdevelop3 is of little assistance in
figuring out how to use kdevelop4)
3. The feature comparison table at
http://www.kdevelop.org/mediawiki/index.php/KDevelop_4/KDev3_KDev4_comparison_table
shows that kdevelop4 is lacking a huge number of (necessary) features
4. There is not even an online tutorial for kdevelop4 (see
http://www.kdevelop.org/index.html?filename=tutorials.html)

So in short if one installs kdevelop4 one ends up with an environment
that is different from the past, is undocumented, and missing many
features. So please, please, please supply a supported version of
kdevelop3. Right now, since eclipse in karmic doesn't include cdt, there
seems to be no viable development environment supplied with kubuntu
karmic, so I am stuck using emacs/gdb/makefiles etc. without any kind of
GUI-based integration, which is a terrible drain on productivity. It
feels like 1985 :-( I am strongly considering creating a VM running an
earlier version of kubuntu simply to get a usable development
environment back :-(

** Affects: kdevelop (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
