Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apturl

While adding arbitrary software repositories via apturl may be a
security risk, adding standard Ubuntu repositories such as karmic-
backports (and potentially karmic-proposed, etc) would not seem to be.

This could be done through apt:foo?channel=karmic-backports if karmic-
backports were added to /usr/share/app-install/channels

New versions of upstream packages can often not be added to the current
release, leaving many upstream projects resorting to their own PPA
rather than focusing on the next release and getting backported. This
could result in a much cleaner install path.
