Previously, I was using Windows XP boot menu to boot Ubuntu.
Followed the instruction did restart one time.
I'm sure the menu.lst is intact.
I'm not sure what setting was wrong, but at first time boot up after
upgrade, touchpad is not responding, and booting time is d**m slow.

Please attach a copy of the /boot/grub/menu.lst file from your system.
Were you prompted to reboot after upgrading? Did you do so?
Were you prompted on upgrade about whether to keep local changes to
menu.lst?
