It sounds like the EDID was being incorrectly cached across reconnection events. This definitely shouldn't happen on recent kernels, so please do reconfirm the bug is still present. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug

Here a third person seeing this same behaviour. My default external monitor is 1280x1024 and when a switch to use projectors and then come back to the default monitor, I can only choose a max resolution of 1024x768. In the end, this means that I have to reboot to get my external monitor to work

Hi macavity, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu?

Hi, sorry I am not testing this issue with a Beta build at this time but I'll give another try when Lucid is deemed ready by Ubuntu AND the community agrees that it is ready. Last time I reported bugs against an LTS version I was told to test a newer alpha version. I am really bad as a resource

I have some additional data about this bug. Just restarting X doesn't trigger xrandr to re-poll for the new monitor. I have to reboot before I can connect to a new external monitor. I also found a ton of these lines in my /var/log/messages: Nov 27 22:07:16 x200 kernel: [ 474.120523] i915
