I solved this problem by downgrading the version of libsane (from 1.0.20

I guess that bug is fixed in 0.7. GSane needs to reload all SANE Options
when SANE requires this. I don't remember how far this is possible in
0.6. Maybe not that much. The issue is reloading SANE option may lead to
reloading option widgets…
Anyway, 0.7 do it the right way, 0.7 and 0.6 are

Étienne, thank you for your comments. 0.7 is so far not released in any
of the Ubuntu pockets. Sane 1.0.20 is a part of Ubuntu since karmic.
Are you saying that there is currently a mismatch since that version of
sane requires option reloading which may not work in gnome-scan 0.6?

to apply to the 0.6.2 source. Looks like the directory structure has
changed quite a bit.
