I've just had this happen after doing an overnight upgrade from a fully
updated Karmic to Lucid 10.04 LTS. Cleaning ~/.config/gnome-session
/saved-session solved it, but it wasn't pretty for somebody who didn't
know how to use a terminal.

Same problem after upgrade from Karmic 9.10 to Lucid 10.04 beta 2.
Cleaning ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session solved it.
