Interesting, running the same script with dapper (not tested on breezy)
with a Canon LiDE 25 is causing a segmentation fault too at the same
stage, but my error in /var/log/messages is:

Some more info. Scanning works just fine using xsane (in Dapper).
Also, I tried disconnecting the usb printer and rebooting, but the same
problem with python+sane occured. The problem occurs using both the 386
and 686 kernels.
