OpenMPI works only disabling sm btl on ubuntu for me, either using 32/64
bit and intel/amd processors on x86. Mpich is not a solution.

I can also confirm this bug on Karmic.
Upgrade to openmpi 1.4.1 is absolutely required.
Openmpi 1.2.5 used in 8.04 also works fine.
I use Karmic amd64 on an 8 core machine.

Current solution on Karmic is to remove openmpi, install mpich and start
'mpd'. It is much more stable.
