The install logs are long gone from the machine in question. I don't
have another machine to do a test on. I imagine you guys at Canonical
do, though.

Please try to extract the installer syslog from the running
installation. One good way to do so even when the main installer
interface is hung, assuming that you have another computer accessible by
network from the one being installed, is to press Alt-F2 to get to the
second virtual console,
