Public bug reported: Loud popping noise before sounds are played (if sounds haven't been played in the last few seconds). I have yet to try the workaround (of commenting out the last line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf), but I'm confident that it'll work.
Filing a separate bug for my hardware, as instructed by https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel- discuss/2009-May/008239.html.
