https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/51017
This appears to be fixed with installation of "libparted-2.1-0
(2.1-3ubuntu1)" and upgrade of "parted (1.8.8.git.2009.07.19-5ubuntu2)
to 2.1-3ubuntu1" & "gparted (0.5.1-1) to 0.5.1-1ubuntu1". But I've only

Me too have run into this problem, trying to create and format an sdb17
being the 16th volume (extended included) on the disk.
I think this problem has to do with the 15 volumes limit for scsi disks
which also applies to sata disks. However, I use ide disks that should
support at least 63 volumes
I had no problems until I got to sda18 where gparted failed to format
the partition.
Went to an installation of 9.04 and formated the partition.
