I haven't used that computer in 6months... as I recall, the problem went
away with newer kernel releases.

I have 2 times T41's. I know that the suspend to RAM works sometimes.
Great improvement but I had trouble to get it awake today in Feisty.
Suspend to disk however works perfectly
Not sure if you have tried Edgy or Feisty on a spare partition... seems
to work a lot better. Maybe even try
