Creating a symbolic link was enough in my case (of running new Axiom with setarch i386 on Jaunty/Karmic): cd /lib32 sudo ln -s /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/libgmp.so.3 (sudo ldconfig) Lucid version installs to the right place, but conflicts with libc-i386 = 2.9-18. -- FHS violation means ld.so
