I reduced this on top of a vanilla kernel to CONFIG_NO_HZ and
CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS. Both are currently set and both need to be
unset for the kernel to output anything for me.

I tried on top of ubuntu/ubuntu-lucid.git and confirmed that taking the
current versatile /boot/config, disabling NO_HW and HIGH_RES_TIMERS, and
rebuilding is enough to fix this.
