The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been

I'm also having this issue, Dell Mini 9 with the standard Dell Hardy Heron
distribution, didn't always do it, noticed it a few months ago - so probably
about the time MichaelN reported it. It *is* annoying (ie, I can see why he's
annoyed).

I've been using Ubuntu since Dapper, on several machines. I just
received my new Mini 10V (with Dell installed Hardy) yesterday. Sure
enough, the Nautilus background color keeps switching to black on me
(and yes, occasionally mauve) no matter how often I reset it to white
via Backgrounds and
Swampy, thank you for letting us know about this temporary workaround. I
will add it to the description so anyone else who encounters this bug
will be able to see it more easily.
