A number of options are available with shorter aliases due to the length limit on the kernel command line such as 'interface' instead of 'net- cfg/choose_interface' http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/manual/en.i386/apbs02.html#preseed-aliases -- Need to able specify ethX interface to get KS or PRESEED

Hi Rudolf Assuming that you are pxe booting your Ubuntu installation over the network, have you tried applying the debian installer appends to the booting ubuntu kernel? eg. My d-i install entry for pxelinux: label debian kernel d-i/2.6/linux append console=tty0 initrd=d-i/2.6/initrd.gz r
