Dear Andreas,
I don't have Kate, and I just went to install it and Synaptic has so many
KDE includes that it comes to nearly 300MB. I'm reluctant to go down that
path.
I've moved over to TeXworks for the time being. It's a strange little
beast, but I'm quite liking it. Nothing like Kile,
It stills affecting kile 2.1 beta 4 in lucid.
