Same issue for me in 2.20.0 under Ubuntu 7.10.
It can only find the file IF I happened to be AT the file folder in which the
file is contained. For example, it cannot find a file on the desktop when the
home folder is selected for search. It can only find the file when I set the
start point
the same behavior in nautilus 2.20.
search function only searches in home-directory.
no search results in other directories.
