I'll be happy to test this under maverick and natty if you will put it
in a PPA. I do a bit of testing of automated installs, so it should get
a bit of a work out.

How backwards compatible are the 2 sides?
Do I need to upgrade both sides (client and server) or will new clients
work with old servers and old server+new client? (or whatever you call
the 2 parts to the avahi part - client and server doesn't seem right.)

This patch does the following:
- rename the package squid-deb-proxy-client to deb-proxy-avahi-client
- creates a package deb-proxy-avahi that contains the avahi upstart
- make the avahi upstart script use the port passed as parameter and
uses a PROVIDER parameter to identify the event owner.
