Just a quick comment in-case anybody else is struggling with this, try
deleting (moving out the way) your ~/.eclipse directory. I tried this
after installing plugins that just would not initialize, they installed
fine afterwards. I suspect I had some older plugins or updates installed

This problem is not resolved for me, after a fresh Eclipse installation
yesterday (version 3.5.2-2ubuntu4). I've tried installing both the PDT
extension from the Gallileo update site, and the Aptana extension from
its own update site. In both cases the installations appear to work
correctly, but

I do have the same problem in lucid.
There are _no errors or exceptions_ thrown when the plugins are not loaded (No
error entries in the Eclipse-Log nor in the Terminal if I start eclipse with
-debug -consoleLog Parameters).
Very strange.
