The problem does not lie in the drivers from Nvidia, which are perfectly capable of producing high resolutions. This problem is apparently new to Karmic Koala, since I haven't encountered it in earlier versions of Kubuntu. -- Inability to set high screen resolutions in nvidia-xconfig, Systems
