Neil Wilson, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
I forgot to mention that Goldstar is the old name of LG corporation.
For people who are connecting a TV and getting modes (resolution+refresh
rate)s which are not actually supported by their TV, and/or are not
getting modes which are supported by their TV, there is a patch in the
just-released
I'm experiencing the same problem, just worse.
My LG26LE5500 (26 Full HD TV) is detected as Goldstar Company Ltd 7,
when hooking it up via HDMI. I can't get it to display anything though.
The TV just displays No signal.

Is this still occurring in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat? If so,
there are a number of HDMI fixes (EDID detection, EDID parsing,
underscan calculation and others) upstream in the recently released
2.6.37 kernel. A PPA of this kernel is available at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Goldstar is the old name of the LG company.

Happens to me also. This makes it impossible for me to use my external
monitor.
I am assuming that this is the same bug because I get the original
symptom: my LG246WP identifies as a Goldstar Ltd. 24 screen, with an
incorrect list of resolutions.
I am able to use 1024x768 (and certain other 4:3

I am experiencing a similar issue that may be related, my LG246WP
identifies as a Goldstar Ltd. 24 screen. This occurs when connected via
DVI-VGA and DVI-HDMI. When connected via DVI-VGA, all expected
resolutions display properly. When connected via DVI-HDMI, the screen
is cropped and off-center
