Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

If I try to install grub on a floppy instead of an hard disk (it's my
standard setup since 8.04: I don't want to touch the MBR) it says:

sudo grub-install /dev/fd0
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Tentativo di installare GRUB su un disco privo di
partizioni. Non è una buona idea..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: L'embed non è possibile. GRUB può essere installato
con questa configurazione solo usando blocklist. Le blocklist non sono comunque
affidabili e ne viene sconsigliato l'uso..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: if you really want blocklists, use --force.

It's italian and it means:
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Trying to install GRUB on a partitionless disk.
This is not a good idea..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Embedding not possible. GRUB can be installed with
this configuration only using blocklists. Blocklists aren't reliable and they
shouldn't be used..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: if you really want blocklists, use --force.

And if I use the --force opt I can confirm that blocklists are
unreliable since they create an un-bootable floppy. By the way, when I
installed Lucid Lynx I clicked on the 'advanced' button and typed
'dev/fd0' as grub2 installation device and it produced the same un-
bootable floppy. I guess that Lucid installation process uses the
--force opt. So this bug affects the liveCD too.

Apparently (my impression) grub-install wants to edit the MBR. But since
it doesn't exist on a floppy, it complains. But what I really want to do
is just install the ol' good grub-legacy's stage1 on floppy.
