I marked this as a Duplicate of bug #48273.
Seems a quick fix is to supply a mirror site instead of the default freedb
server in the preferences dialog.

Running Ubuntu Dapper:

Almost as soon as a search for information from the ``CD Data Base
Search'' tool is activated the program hangs, but not every time and it

easytag hangs here at 'receiving data', after clicking on the automatic
search tab. From what I gather, in step 3 the reporter is referring to
Misc-CD Data Base Search

Actually I'm not sure whether selecting tracks is neccessary. I've got
it to hang for a couple of times without selecting tracks but so far
haven't managed to do so with tracks selected. It also doesn't hang
consistently - even when experimenting on the same directory. This might
be debian bug

Happens to me too! ever since i've been using easytag.
i select a couple tracks and want then click Misc-CD Data Base Search and
every so often searching makes the entire applications lock up.
