Hi George,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

All I can say is that I was opening XChat and Changing my appearance
settings at the same time.
I had just logged in as another user just minutes prior... the bug may
have come up from that.

I've had exactly the same Nigel's problem: I opened a guest session but
when I returned back to my own session I received this kernel alert.

+1 Nigel's experience. I accidentally switched into the guest session (I
was trying to lock the screen) and logged back in to my own session.
Then, I locked the screen. I brought screen back up and noticed the
apport icon. Computer seems to be ok otherwise.
