I'll second K8BeBop.
I have the same problem: blank CDs work perfectly as expected. With blank DVDs,
the CD/DVD drive icon disapears from Nautilus as soon as insert the disc. It
reappears the second I remove it.
Running:
Linux 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64
I also have this. I've tested it on a number of DVD's I have. If I try
reading a previously written DVD-R, or DVD+R DL, the drive disappears.
If I remove the disc, the drive reappears. If I try a previously written
CD-R or DVD+RW, it works as expected.
