This bug did not occur with firefox 1.99+2.0b2+dfsg-1ubuntu2 on a edgy kubuntu system. But I had to uninstall flashplugin first, i.e. with the flashplugin firefox did crash. (note: just deleting the $HOME/.mozilla directory did NOT do the job I had to actually write to a command line: sudo
