Problem exists both in Live-CD and clean install for my Dell Latitude
D800 notebook with NVIDIA Geforce4 32MB video card using the default
nouveau video driver. Enabling the NVIDIA 96 series restricted driver
fixed the problem for the installed version.

I can confirm this. The last version my Dell Latitude D800 with GeForce4
graphics worked with, was 8.04. That's what I'm still running. I tried
installing 10.04 to HD and then installing the binary driver nvidia 96. But the
problem remained after a reboot.
I remember trying other distros e.g.
Exactly same problem here with the same Dell D800 with NVIDIA Geforce4

need more info from me.

Interestingly, this problem does not occur on my Dell D800 in VBox 3.1.8
r61349 w/Guest Additions when I boot from the Ubuntu 10.04 .iso image.
It also occurs on my obsolescent AMD Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz with the NVIDIA
FX 5200 video card when I boot from the Live-CD. The one thing these two

I had the same problem on my Latitude D800.
Switching to the Nvidia driver solved the corrupt display problem.
However, I now don't see the Ubuntu splash screen after selecting kernel
from the Grub menu.

As always, I ran the CD error-check program from the menu of the Live-CD; it

Additional Info: I double-checked the md5sum of the .iso image at the
mirror and compared it to the md5sum of the .iso image I downloaded;
they are the same. I burned a new CD anyway and the new Live-CD has the
same problem so I don't think it's a bad CD burn.
I've noticed that the vertical
As the release notes suggested, I tried booting the Live-CD with
'nomodeset' option under the F6 menu. Interestingly, the vertical lines
were still there but everything (icons, pointer etc.) was doubled about
1/2-inch to the right. I mean 2 Install Ubuntu icons, 2 Examples
icons, 2 pointers.
