Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When logging in, each time the background on the right screen in my
dualhead setup doesn't seem to repaint properly. Whenever I drag a
window over it, it's showing "trails" of the window, indicating that the
background is broken. I can also not right click on the background to
get the nautilus menu (create Folder etc.). Going into preferences and
disabling, then re-enabling the right monitor fixes it, until the next
restart of X.

It seems very similar to bug #378482, reported against the intel video
drivers, but since fixed apparently.
