ditto here i have a hp dv6 2128 el and i was getting sound from both loudspeaker and headphones after plugging them into the audio jack, James' quirck worked. alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1 enable_msi=1 in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf did the trick
