of sleep mode by moving the mouse or pressing any key. I can't do that anymore

When it freezes, does the Capslock light work? Can you switch to a
virtual terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1? Can you REISUB?
Does disabling Desktop Effects (Compiz) fix the issue? If you have a
screensaver, does disabling it solve the freeze?
