pbuilder calls debootstrap to create chroots, debootstrap will unpack
and configure base Debian packages; I suspect debootstrap is failing due
to a bug in some Debian package in sid. For instance this could be due
to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=581420.
Try running sudo
