When I'm doing a demanding CPU activity (ripping a CD, doing OCR, etc),
the computer shuts itself down due to overheating (more than 99 C).
I've tried running sudo sensors-detect but no modules were loaded.

Given that it doesn't happen with the proprietary fglrx drivers, it's
definitely related to bug #373669. See comments 16 and 17 in that bug.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. I saw that comment yesterday. I tried
installing the latest 2.6.35 kernel from the ppa (The maverick
backported kernel), but the problem persists. Although I get an extra
sensor for the video adapter, the fans are not turned on automatically
and I still get very
I must correct myself. It DOES happen too with the fglrx proprietary
drivers. I tried OCRing and using a clutter-dependant plug in for
Banshee and the temperature rose nevertheless and computer had to shut
itself down again.
