Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity
In Gconf, when I tick /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager, nothing happens, according to the gnome 2.16 release notes [1], metacity should be compiled with the --enable-compositor special option to get 3D effects. Yet, for simple users as me, compiling it is painful. Somehow it has to be far more simple, maybe with another metacity package, compiled with the special option and called metacity-comositing by instance, in conflict with the normal metacity 2D package, that the end user could choose in Synaptic.
