WUHU !!! finaly fixed the error. It seems that the hardware combination caused the Problem. I was Using an very old Transcend SSD (TS128GSSD25S-M) with a very new Mainboard ASRock B85M Pro4 ( Intel B85M Chipset as the name says) + I3 Cpu. After cloneing the System with clonezilla to a Samsung

I was able to fix this by adding a rootdelay=90 in the kernel line of my grub config. Seems pretty consistent among all my lucid installs, but then my hardware is also pretty consistent: Dell M605/SAS6IR I'd love to be able to preseed this into the grub config on the target... Suggestions? --

Update: I uncommented this line from /etc/default/grub: GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true My system now tries to boot from /dev/sda1 instead of from a uuid device file. Sadly, it doesn't fix this bug. -- gave up waiting for root device (temporary, intermittent)
