'me too' with today's ppc/alternate (20060914) on standard ext3. usplash
on the live CD works, though (I didn't test an ubiquity-installed system
yet)

Also try tweaking /etc/usplash.conf to something better than 640x480 and
doing 'update-initramfs -u' ... this is a known bug.
