Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-file

apt-file assumes that the repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list ({.d/})
carry Contents-<arch>.gz files. This seems not to hold for all Ubuntu
mirrors (whereas I gather all Debian mirrors do have this file).

Witness: bug #179899, bug #567895, bug #181312, bug #220396 (tangential)

Should apt-file in Ubuntu somehow know which mirrors do carry
Contents-<arch>.gz files, and (silently?) skip the rest, and perhaps
even substitute a "canonical" (sorry!) server if the user hasn't
selected any server which has the required file?

** Affects: apt-file (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
