This bug is still present in Edgy, and therefore presumably in Dapper too. I've
just had to manually correct all the python2.3 links on my edgy amd64
installation.
We need the backport to Edgy!

Please do not change the status from Fix Committed to Confirmed. The
next step for a Fix Committed bug is a Fix Released status. The fix has
been committed and released for Feisty. The fix for Edgy and Dapper have
yet to be released.

John, because a bug is Fix Committed does not mean it still doesn't
exist. It means it has been confirmed, a workaround/patch has been
created, and it will be released. Some fix commits can't be backported,
that is why there is an edgy-backport repository. See Richard Johnson's
