The dependency on libffi4-dev is introduced indirectly.
gnucash - g-wrap - libgwrap-runtime0-dev - libffi4-dev
Removing the dependency from g-wrap on libgwrap-runtime0-dev should fix
all this.

Rejecting as the problem is with g-wrap, not gnucash

(Disclaimer: I don't have an edgy environment now, the following
analysis is based on Debian unstable, version 2.0.1-3, however I believe
they apply to Ubuntu.)
The dependency on the -dev packages seems to be introduced by g-wrap:
gnucash depends on
gwrap, which depends on
I have a typo on the above analysis, it should be g-wrap, not gwrap.
Anyway, the problematic package seems to be g-wrap instead of gnucash.
There is a Debian bug #383049 open for it.

Unnecessary (-dev) dependencies in
My bad. It is actually libffi4-dev and not libtiff4-dev.
So everything is same in Debian unstable and Edgy.
** Description changed:
I have just upgraded to edgy. While trying to install gnucash I observed
that it has some unnecessary dependencies in my opinion.
guile-1.6-dev
-
This bug doesn't have much to do with gnucash upstream (it's most likely
a bug in g-wrap). If you want to say this bug affects Debian as well,
don't use the Also Affects Upstream link, use the Also Affets
Distribution link instead and choose Debian.
** Changed in: gnucash (upstream)
Thanks - I was just trying to link in the debian bugtracker. I presumed
that Debian was upstream.
